New Culinary Hotspot in Shinjuku: “Sagano Sakaba” Opens, Showcasing the Charms of Saga Prefecture
This izakaya showcases the charm of Saga Prefecture, offering chicken dishes featuring the branded “Mitsuse Chicken” from Mitsuse Village, Saga City, charcoal-grilled seasonal vegetables shipped directly from Saga, and a selection of Saga’s sake and craft gin.
Company has been developing such “regional izakayas” since 2009, but with “Sagano Sakaba,” we’ve implemented a slightly different approach. We’ve created a stylish space suitable not only for office workers but also for dates and girls’ nights out, and prepared a diverse menu of trendy and playful appetizers, proposing a new style of “regional izakaya.”
Over 10 years of developing “regional izakayas” in partnership with local governments nationwide “Regional izakayas” serve local ingredients and alcohol, promoting the appeal of specific regions. This style began to increase in the 2000s, and funfunction started with the opening of “Hokkaido Yakumo-cho” in 2009. Since then, we have expanded to over 30 locations, mainly in Tokyo, featuring various regions such as Mitsuse Village in Saga City, Akkeshi in Hokkaido, Mihama Town in Fukui Prefecture, and Geisei Village in Kochi Prefecture.
The distinguishing feature of funfunction’s regional izakayas is that we collaborate with local governments, receiving cooperation in sourcing local ingredients. It’s also noteworthy that many of our shops are named after the local municipalities, with official approval.
From Mitsuse Village’s “Mitsuse Chicken” skewers to shumai, namero, and an array of genre-defying appetizers The theme of “Sagano Sakaba” is Saga City. Centered around “Mitsuse Chicken” from Mitsuse Village in Saga City, we’ve gathered delicious ingredients and drinks related to Saga. While our company has primarily developed regional izakayas for office workers in business districts, we’ve updated this concept by incorporating trendy and playful elements. We’ve opened with a new style that meets the demands of Shinjuku’s streets, easily accessible not only to office workers but also to young people and women.
